Dublin: Fast-Track Book of Kells Ticket & Dublin Castle Tour

About This Experience
Described in the Annals of Ulster as “the most precious object of the Western world,” the Book of Kells is a 9th-century illuminated manuscript of the four Gospels, hand-lettered and painted by Celtic monks around 800 AD. This fast-track tour gets you past the queues and in front of it quickly, with an expert local guide to help you read its dense symbolism and extraordinary ornamentation.
You'll meet your guide at the main entrance to Trinity College on College Green, then head into the Old Library complex to see the manuscript up close and walk through the barrel-vaulted Long Room — one of Europe's great library interiors. Your guide brings the artistry and history to life: the interlace knotwork, the uncial script, and the story of how the manuscript survived Viking raids to reach Dublin.
The second half of the tour is a guided visit to Dublin Castle, built on the orders of King John in the 13th century and the seat of power in Ireland for 700 years. Your guide walks you through the exterior highlights and the castle gardens, giving you one of the most complete introductions to medieval and Georgian Dublin available in a single morning.
